Packaging’s contribution to food waste reduction in France

27 February 2018

The French Conseil National de l’Emballage (CNE) and Agence de l'Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l'Énergie (ADEME) have published a report on the role that packaging may play in fighting food waste. The document provides and overview of how packaging can help to reduce waste.
Adaption of the consumption habits of a given household and the size of the products offered is a key element. Also size adjustment of pre-packaged products, increasing the product lifespan, augmenting the restitution rate, watertight resealing, the right dosing and providing the right information on the product’s value and management are important (News Item French National Packaging Council, January 2018).
