E-commerce: Disruption in the battle for the last mile

28 September 2017

The newest publication by Roland Berger is titled ‘The Last Mile - Wat gaat er veranderen in het logistieke landschap?’ (The Last Mile - What is going to change in the logistic landscape?). Cities will always remain the places where goods are made, distributed and used. The present consumers add new dynamics to that status quo: they continuously demand more and faster deliveries.
Meanwhile, the transport infrastructure has reached its natural limits, like the maximum number of vehicles that can move over a certain piece of road per hour. The inevitable consequence is a disruption in the battle for the ‘last mile’, or the last mile a parcel travels to reach the consumer.
