Report packaging design conference Rome: Fighting food waste

31 March 2017

On 15-16 March 2017 the 13th ENG conference on Packaging Design and Innovation took place, at the Radisson Blue Hotel Rome. Key topics included designing packaging for e-commerce, generating consumer engagement with interactive and smart packaging and packaging perspectives for the ‘robotised’ and ‘intelligent’ 4.0 industry.
On March 16th, an intense interactive debate took place, moderated by NVC-director Michael Nieuwesteeg, on fighting food waste via better packaging. Delegates learned that the world wastes about one-third of the food produced, however counts two billion obese people, whereas another 800 million live on the edge of starvation. How and where should packaging play a role?
