US: Possible expansion of Vermont deposit scheme

26 January 2017

15 members of the Vermont House of Representatives have co-sponsored a companion bill – H.67. The bill would add noncarbonated water, wine, and nonalcoholic carbonated and noncarbonated drinks (except for rice milk, soymilk, almond milk, hempseed milk, milk, and dairy products) to the list of beverages covered by the state’s container deposit scheme. It also would permit wine producers to affix adhesive deposit information stickers to wine bottles. Beverage producers would be required to submit monthly reports on their deposit totals to the Secretary of Natural Resources and remit any unredeemed deposits to the Commissioner of Taxes (State Recycling Laws Update, 23 January 2017).
