Rising wood prices: Pallets and crates becoming more expensive

27 February 2018

In the past few months, the wood price has been rising rapidly, in some cases by as much as 20%; pallets and crates are getting more expensive. The main cause is the scarcity on the global wood market and a considerably higher demand. To date the producers still manage to provide pallets to their customers, but the scarcity will worsen and the prices will increase.
The wet summer and autumn of 2017 play an important role in the round timber scarcity in large parts of Europe, like the Baltic States, Germany and Scandinavia. Another important reason for the rising wood price is that the European wood market has become a global market (Press Release EPV, 9 February 2018).
