EU: Call for evidence and information on oxo-degradable plastics

04 April 2018

The European Chemicals Agency ECHA recently announced that, at the request of the European Commission, it will investigate the need for a restriction on oxo-degradable plastics, potentially focussing on the additives used in these types of plastics to promote their oxidation.
As part of this investigation ECHA is undertaking a call for evidence and information. The information gathered will be used to determine whether oxo-degradable plastics, or the additives they contain, pose a risk on an EU-wide basis. The information will also be used to assess the socio-economic impacts of any potential restriction. The consultation started on 28 March and will close on 11 May 2018.
