NL: Internet largest shopping centre of Western Holland

31 March 2017

With almost 32,000 retailers, the internet is the largest shopping centre of the Netherlands. This is one of the conclusions of research on consumer buying behavior performed by I&O Research and DTNP in the provinces of North-Holland, South-Holland and Utrecht.
Since 2011 online expenditures have almost doubled, with the online share in shopping goods rising to 21.6%. Almost 12% of the total amount spent on shopping was spent in online shops. For the daily shopping this was 1.6% (0.8% in 2011). Continued growth is to be expected, which will lead to further changes in consumer behaviour and the Dutch (online) retail market (News Item I&O Research, 8 February 2017).
