NL: Options for improvement for recycling of plastic packaging

03 September 2018

In a recent report, researchers of Wageningen Food & Biobased Research (WFBR) describe the effect of industrial policy measures in the recycling chain for domestic plastic packaging on the quality and quantity of the recycling products (washed regrind plastic).
The most important policy options are described for each step of the supply chain; options for the packer-fillers, municipalities and collection services, sorting businesses and recycling companies. According to the researchers, the broad application of design-for-recycling measures by packer-fillers will mainly lead to increased purity of the recyclate and also a small growth in the amount of recyclate.
