NL: Deposit? Industry has 2 years to solve plastic bottle problem

29 March 2018

In a letter of 10 March 2018, the Dutch House of Representatives is informed about the intermediate evaluation of the Packaging Framework Agreement 2013-2022. On 15 and 22 March the evaluation was discussed in the Dutch House circular economy meetings.
With the letter she implements the ‘petition motion’ of the Plastic Soup Surfer. A deposit system for small plastic bottles will be introduced if the proportion of plastic bottles in litter is not reduced by 70 to 90%, and 90% of the small bottles is not reused by autumn 2020. She also gives a reaction on the report about the costs and effects of a deposit system for small bottles and cans and the results of the litter pilot ‘Schoon Belonen’.
