NL: No ban on BPA in food contact materials

The Dutch minister for Healthcare and Sport wrote to the Dutch House of Representatives in reaction to the questions on the implementation of the motion of MP Ouwehand. In this motion, that was adopted by parliament, the government is requested to place a ban on the use of Bisphenol A (BPA) in food contact materials.
According to the minister, member state scan use their right to introduce a ban ‘when harmonisation is lacking and when uncertainties continue to exist in the light of current scientific research’. The minister states that these conditions for a national deviation have not been met. Therefore, a national ban is out of order (Newsletter Waar&Wet, 12 December 2017).
