NL: Food sector finished 2016 on positive note

The Dutch food sector has achieved good results in 2016. For example, the production of the food industry, after 2 years of decrease, grew by 3.1% in 2016. This is the highest growth number in 5 years. The selling prices went up as well (0.8%) and the turnover increased (0.4%). In 2016, the turnover of the wholesalers grew by 3%. The fruit and vegetable traders did particularly well (9%). The wholesalers in dairy products still suffered from the lower milk price in 2015/early 2016.
The food sector depends for approximately 70% of its turnover on export. The export to Germany, the most important export market, grew by 3% (News Item ABN AMRO, 13 February 2017).
