NL CPB: Circular economy and environmental pricing

02 July 2018

Pricing of environmental damage is important in order to achieve a more circular economy. This works best when the damage is to be paid by the one who causes it. The main gains are from addressing polluting companies. However, a completely circular economy is unwise because of the considerable societal costs. These are conclusions from a recent publication by the Central Planning Board in The Netherlands (CPB).
The report was presented 20 June 2018 in The Hague with a keynote by Prof. Don Fullerton (University of Illinois) on the effectiveness of environmental policy in the area of waste and the boundaries of circularity in the economy (Press Release CPB, 20 June 2018).
