NL KIDV: Biodegradable plastics are not the preferred option

03 September 2018

Biodegradable plastics are on the rise. However, the Netherlands Institute for Sustainable Packaging (KIDV) prefers reusable and recyclable packaging to biodegradable packaging. KIDV has published a factsheet about biodegradable plastic packaging to answer the most common question about this subject.
KIDV does see opportunities for the use of biodegradable plastic when these provide an integral advantage in combination with the product that causes an increase in the collection of vegetable, fruit and garden waste (GFT) as is the case with labels on fruit. These materials can also be used in applications that can be processed in closed systems (News Item KIDV, 10 August 2018).
