Thin film transistors printed entirely with layered materials

25 April 2017

Scientists have fabricated printed transistors consisting entirely of 2-dimensional nanomaterials. These 2D materials combine exciting electronic properties with the potential for low-cost production. This breakthrough could unlock the potential for applications such as food packaging that displays a digital countdown to warn you of spoiling or wine labels that alert you when your white wine is at its optimum temperature.
This discovery opens the path for industry to cheaply print a host of electronic devices with applications including interactive smart food and drug labels. An article about the research is published in Science (News Item Trinity College Dublin, 7 April 2017).
