EU-wide strategy on plastics adopted by European Commission

25 January 2018

The European Commission has adopted the first-ever EU-wide strategy on plastics. Under the plans, all plastic packaging on the market will be recyclable by 2030, the consumption of single-use plastics will be reduced and the intentional use of microplastics will be restricted.
The initiatives take the form of: a Communication on a European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy; a Communication on the Interface between Chemicals, Products and Waste; a Monitoring Framework on the Circular Economy and a new Directive on Port Reception Facilities. They are complemented by the Report on Critical Raw Materials and the Report on Oxo-plastics (Press Release European Commission, 16 January 2018).
