EU: Proposal labelling alcoholic products not good enough

03 September 2018

A majority of the EU member states has indicated that they think the self-regulation proposal of the European industry does not meet the demands. They want legislation that makes putting the nutritional value and ingredients on alcoholic products mandatory. This is a reaction to the self-regulation proposal that the producers of alcoholic beverages have written on request of the European Commission. In this report, they suggest to indicate part of the information on the label and to make another part available online. The member states, including the Netherlands, are of the opinion that transparency of the information on the label should be guaranteed (Scherp in Waar&Wet, 26 June 2018).
