Effect different packaging materials on quality shelled walnuts

19 December 2017

Researchers at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST) in India analysed medium shelled walnut packed in three different kinds of packaging (gunny bags, cardboard and HDPE) stored for a period of 9 months.
They found statistically significant effects of packaging materials and storage periods on kernel colour, shell color, kernel taste and kernel mouthfeel score of whole walnuts. HDPE packaging proved to be superior with respect to maintaining the organoleptic observations during 270 days ambient storage compared to cardboard and gunny bags. An article about the research is published in the Journal of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry.
