EESC wants better labelling on spirits

04 September 2017

The European Economic and Social Committee has published an opinion about the proposal for amending Regulation (EC) no. 110/2008 on the definition, description, presentation, labelling and the protection of geographical indications of spirit drinks.
In her advice, the EESC writes that she in general agrees with the proposal. However, the Committee does establish that the statement of the ingredients and nutritional value on spirits is left aside. The Committee points out to the European Commission that consumers have the right to receive reliable and balanced information about alcoholic drinks, so they can make well informed choices about their consumption (Newsletter Waar&Wet, 4 July 2017).
