CA: Draft environmental guidelines BPA and 3 other chemicals

27 February 2017

On February 11, the Government of Canada published draft Federal Environmental Quality Guidelines (FEQGs) for bisphenol A (BPA), hexavalent chromium, perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), and triclosan. The guidelines set safe environmental concentration limits for the chemicals in surface water, sediment and wildlife diets but not in products.
FEQGs are maximum concentration thresholds below which there is “low likelihood of direct adverse effects from the chemical on aquatic life exposed via the water or sediment, or where chemicals may bioaccumulate, in wildlife (birds and mammals) that consume aquatic life” (State Recycling Laws Update, 20 February 2017)
