WASTED: 2nd edition of NRDC’s US landmark food waste report

25 September 2017

Five years after the 1st edition in 2012, the second edition of the NRDC report captures the latest studies, success stories, and recommendations across the food system. It provides updated statistics on the environmental, economic and social impacts, analyzes areas of progress at the government, business and consumer levels in the last 5 years, and offers policy solutions for overcoming the problem.
Among other things, it reveals that, across the food system, the USA throw out more than 400 pounds of food per person per year. If the USA could redirect just one-third of that food to people in need, it would more than cover unmet food needs across the country (News Item NRDC, 17 August 2017).
