Food waste and packaging: A case study on iceberg lettuce

03 July 2017

A Master Thesis published at Lund University (Food Supply Chain Actors’ View on Food Waste and Packaging: A Case Study on Iceberg Lettuce) shows the obstacles and challenges that need to be overcome in order to reduce the food wastage. Central to the problem are issues like lacking motivation, knowledge and awareness among consumers. Contradicting financial requirements were also identified. Five packaging features with the potential to reduce iceberg lettuce waste are identified.
Fighting food waste via better packaging will also be the key-theme at Anuga FoodTec on Thursday 22 March 2018, Cologne (Germany). The Lund University Master Thesis will be referenced in the conference programme.
