Five new substances authorised for plastic FCMs

25 January 2018

Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 contains a list of authorised substances for the manufacture of plastic food contact materials. To bring the regulation up to date with the most recent recommendations of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), it has been amended by Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/79.
EFSA has published a positive advice about the use of five substances. Under the condition that these substances meet the corresponding requirements, they do not pose a safety risk for the consumer according to EFSA. Therefore, they have been included in the list of authorised substances. Annex I of the regulation has been changed to include these substances (Newsletter Waar&Wet, 23 January 2018).
