Update oxo-biodegradable plastics in Saudi Arabia

04 December 2017

The government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is preparing the introduction of mandatory requirements that articles made from plastic must be oxo-biodegradable. As a result the debate on the use of these materials has intensified. The scope of product comprises polyethylene sheets, different kinds of plastic film and all plastic bags, including bubble bags intended for shock protection and courier bags.
NVC director Michael Nieuwesteeg was invited to present the state of the art in a workshop organised via the KSA government and national standards organisation SASO on 6 November 2017 in Riyadh, KSA. The outcome of this workshop will be shared in an NVC webco on 15 December 2017.
