Bill reducing plastic packaging introduced in UK Parliament

03 July 2018

At the beginning of June a bill was introduced in the House of Commons that would require the UK’s Secretary of State to set, measure, enforce and report on targets for the reduction and recycling of plastic packaging and to make provision for support for the development of sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging.
Under the Plastics Bill 2017-19, the targets to be set by the Secretary of State would limit the production and use of plastic packaging and increase recycling and other forms of waste recovery in relation to plastic packaging. Separate targets would be set for the production of plastic packaging and its sales (Recycling Laws International, 15 June 2018).
