Shortage of engineers worsens competitiveness of Netherlands

05 June 2018

54% of the technical organisations expects that the shortage of engineers will have a negative effect on the competitive position of the Netherlands. This is the result of the ROVC TechBarometer 2018 that gives insight in the trends that are relevant for technology.
In 2017, 80% of the respondents anticipated a shortage, qualitatively and/or quantitatively, for the coming five years. This year this is again the case for the majority (79%). The bad connection between regular education and the industry is mentioned as the main cause of this problem (30%). The bad image of the technical industry (23%) and the ageing workforce (19%) also play an important role (News Item ROVC, 7 May 2018).
