Saudi Arabia: Plastic packaging must be oxo-biodegradable

31 October 2017

As of December 2017, new restrictions for plastic articles, including plastic bags and other packaging material, will be applied in Saudi Arabia. Non-biodegradable plastic bags have already been banned. In order to be eligible for importation, articles made from plastic must be oxo-biodegradable.
The scope of product comprises, by way of example, single-use plastic tableware, personal care products, polyethylene sheets, different kinds of plastic film and all types of plastic bags, including bubble bags intended for shock protection and courier bags. Care should therefore also be taken to the immediate and the secondary packaging of imported goods (website European Commission).
