NL: Compulsory to look at alternatives for multilayer PET trays

31 January 2017

The use of PET trays has rapidly increased in the past years. However, these trays are still challenging to recycle, which leads to a large supply of trays at sorting companies and businesses involved in post separation. The Netherlands Institute for Sustainable Packaging (KIDV) made an exploration of the market situation of PET trays that should help to improve closing this chain.
On 11 January, the Packaging Waste Fund (Afvalfonds Verpakkingen) sent an e-mail to producers and importers of packaging about the recycling of PET trays. Chapter 2 of the KIDV exploration ‘PET trays: on our way to structural solutions’ goes deeper into the matter of existing multilayers and possible alternatives.
