NL: Many incorrect claims on products for weight-loss diets

05 June 2018

In an investigation of labels and websites of food products that are sold as part of a weight-loss diet, the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has observed that many companies are using food and health claims that are not permitted. For this investigation, the NVWA has inspected products from 36 different companies. The products of only two companies had labels that fully complied with the rules and regulations. The research showed that 21 companies had incorrect food claims displayed on their product(s). The NVWA also found there was a problem with the health claims on the products or websites of 28 companies (NVWA, 14 May 2018).
