NL: Implementation of petition resolution Plastic Soup Surfer

03 July 2017

On 23 May 2017, State Secretary Dijksma sent a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives about the implementation of the ‘petition motion’ of the Plastic Soup Surfer concerning the reduction of small bottles in litter in the Netherlands by 90% in three years. This requires extra measures on top of the existing set of initiatives.
Concerning price incentives she notes that both a positive price incentive, like a reward system as used in the pilot ‘Schoon Belonen’, and a negative price incentive in the form of a deposit scheme, are possible.
She expects to gain insights in the effects of the different types of price incentives through the currently running projects and studies.
