NL: Turnover rises, more sustainable packaging in supermarket

02 July 2018

The Dutch CBL (Central Bureau Food Retail) expects the food retail turnover in 2018 to be 39 billion euro. In 2017, the turnover was 37.5 billion euro. Sustainability is becoming increasingly important to consumers. In line with this development, the CBL announces ambitions in the area of packaging. These ambitions are part of a broader Climate Plan that the CBL is presenting in autumn this year. Next to major efforts in the field of packaging, the CBL Climate Plan also focuses on the prevention of food waste. Furthermore, the branch has entered into an agreement with the State Secretary for Infrastructure and Water Management about preventing litter (Press Release CBL, 21 June 2018).
