NL: Green Deal ‘Past the Date?’ signed

31 January 2017

On behalf of the supermarket and food service sector, the Dutch CBL (Central Bureau Food Retail) signed the Green Deal ‘Past the Date?’ (Over de Datum?) during the National Food Summit on 26 January. CBL wants to explain the meaning of best-before dates and the shelf life of products (also after opening) to decrease food waste.
The CBL also calls on its members not to set best-before dates any shorter than necessary for the optimal preservation of quality. The other signatories are the Dutch ministries of Economic Affairs, Health, Welfare and Sport, Infrastructure and the Environment, FNLI, NZO, and Wageningen University & Research (Green Deal, 27 January 2017).
