New initiatives to improve competences and skills of EU citizens

23 January 2018

The European Commission has adopted new initiatives to improve key competences and digital skills of European citizens, to promote common values and pupils' awareness of the functioning of the European Union. They are intended to reduce socio-economic inequalities, whilst sustaining competitiveness in order to build a more united, stronger and more democratic Europe.
The three initiatives proposed by the Commission are: 1) A Council Recommendation on Key Competences for Lifelong Learning, 2) A Digital Education Action Plan and 3) A Council Recommendation on common values, inclusive education and the European dimension of teaching (Press release European Commission, 17 January 2018).
