Analysis of mineral oils is complicated

28 September 2017

Erik Bulten of Eurofins Food Testing Netherlands, gives an overview of the current state of events concerning mineral oils in the magazine VMT. Measuring mineral oils in food products requires a great deal of expertise of the labs in order to properly detect them. Furthermore, MOAHs are more harmful than MOSH and the MOAHs with three or more polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are particularly harmful.
Foodwatch wants to tackle the contamination of our food with mineral oils and is asking questions about the matter to parliament. They even started a campaign to move the government to take action. As long as there is no new government, the issue will remain on hold (VMT, 20 September 2017).
