Invasion transport robots in logistics not in near future

25 April 2017

The newest generation of flexible transport robots is compact, easy to use, and can navigate autonomously without the help of extra infrastructure. There is no question about whether these robots will be used in logistics, only about when the industry will start using them in great numbers. According to the results of the VIL project ‘Flexible Transport Robots’, we shouldn’t expect an invasion in the short term.
The navigation of the robots that were tested is based on ‘SLAM’ (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping). SLAM is a technology that allows the robots to create a realtime map of its environment with the help of optical sensors (Press Release VIL, 30 March 2017).
