EU: Resolution interface chemical, product and waste legislation

31 May 2018

On 26 April, the ENVI Committee considered the draft motion for resolution on the interface between chemical, product and waste legislation. The motion is part of the set of measures to implement the Circular Economy Action Plan. The Commission identified 4 critical issues: insufficient information about substances of concern in products and waste, presence of substances of concern in recycled materials, uncertainties about how materials can cease to be waste, and difficulties in the application of EU waste classification methodologies. The draft motion for resolution stresses the importance of taking swift action in order to tackle the problems (News Item European Parliament, 26 April 2018).
