Promising first trials with paper from Brussels sprouts stalks

05 June 2018

The project ‘Growing a Green Future’ explores which local agricultural waste streams can be used as sustainable raw material for paper or cardboard. In a first theoretical assessment in 2017 the Brussels sprouts stalks were identified as a promising resource.
Sander van Calker of Millvision has performed tests and is pleased with the first results. ‘Fresh Brussels sprouts stalks are green, and therefore you could expect that the paper would get a green shade. It is striking that the prototype is quite colourless, a bit cream-coloured. That gives this waste stream a lot of chance to be used professionally’, he expects (News Item ZLTO, 30 April 2018).
