DK: Storage/heating box to reduce food waste

02 July 2018

A Danish project was concluded “Mindre spild af restemad ved brug af smart multifunktionel opbevaringsboks, som giver nem og lækker opvarmning i mikrobølgeovn”, addressed reduced waste of leftovers using a smart multifunctional storage box that ensures homogenous microwave heating. Reheating of leftovers in the microwave oven usually results in poor quality. A prototype of a storage/heating box for dinner leftovers planned to be eaten later was developed and tested.
Project results indicate that the box will have an effect and can help reducing food waste for 45% of Danish consumers. For 80% of these consumers this will mean a reduced food waste of 2-3 meals per week.
