Circularity Gap Report: Our world is only 9% circular

22 February 2018

Our world economy is only 9.1% circular, leaving a massive ‘Circularity Gap’. This alarming statistic is the main output of the first Circularity Gap Report, in which Circle Economy launches a metric for the circular state of the planet. Taking the United Nations’ Emissions Gap Report as inspiration, the report provides a framework and fact-base to measure and monitor progress in bridging the gap, year on year. For key needs like housing, mobility and nutrition, the Report reveals the global material footprint. It shows which needs consume what resources. It shows what happens with products and materials after their functional use in society (News Item Circle Economy, 22 January 2018).
