Consumer case study on Rituals and Lush - Refill vs no package

For her MSc Dissertation at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Cátia Sofia Silva looked at whether consumers are willing to adhere to companies’ environmentally friendly packaging. To do this she took a closer look at Rituals and Lush and their environmental initiatives regarding packaging, as well as the consumers behaviour and its effectiveness.
The main results show that both brands’ packaging concepts are welcomed by the consumers. Both companies have looked at the packaging and innovated the cosmetic market. Rituals has created a refill packaging and Lush had a more down to the core approach by getting rid of the packaging in 35% of their products.
