BE: Start of Project Polluted Packaging Logistics

04 September 2017

The collection of polluted drums and Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) poses a problem to many companies. With the project Polluted Packaging Logistics, the Flanders Institute for Logistics (VIL) and 12 companies start their search for innovative logistic models to more efficiently collect these drums and make recycling and reuse possible.
In the case of ‘total waste solutions’ – a general contract with a waste collector – the packs are sometimes collected and processed as ‘dangerous waste’.
Because the locations, materials and types of the packs vary widely, the logistic costs can rise to high levels and often they are burnt (Press Release VIL, 29 June 2017).
