BE: Online retail: more than half is processed abroad

Belgian online retail has grown by 15% over the past year. The growth numbers are positive, but a recent study also shows that more than half of the online purchases is processed outside the country. Online shops have their busiest day of the week on Tuesday. Sunday is also a busy day for online purchases. More than 40% of the online purchases is done after 5 PM.
In 2016, the total turnover of the categories Food and Non-Food was 94.55 billion euros. The e-commerce based share grew to 7.86%, about 7.43 billion euros, which is an increase of 15% compared to 2015. In 2013, the foreign share was 37.3%, which is now more than half (Press Release Comeos, 27 January 2017).
