Active banana flour nanocomposite films

25 April 2018

Researchers at Kasetsart University in Thailand incorporated active plasticized banana flour nanocomposite film with a different garlic essential oil (GO) content. They found that the GO concentration was positively correlated with the ultraviolet (UV) light barrier property and antioxidant activity.
Incorporation of 1 mg/mL GO showed the highest antioxidant activity so they investigated this film as an active packaging to preserve the quality of roasted peanuts. They compared the film with commercial plastic packaging and found a similar shelf life estimation of the roasted peanuts. An article about the research is published in Food and Bioprocess Technology.
