More EU interceptions wood packaging with harmful organisms

23 January 2017

The EUROPHYT - Interceptions Annual Report 2015 was published in December 2016.
EUROPHYT - Interceptions is the EU plant health interception, notification and rapid alert system. For interceptions due to the presence of harmful organisms (HOs), the main commodities were fruit and vegetables (72.3%) and wood packaging material (13.2%). 2,725 notifications of intercepted WPM in imported goods from TCs were received, a marked increase over previous years mainly due to increased interceptions for wood crates and pallets, but also a doubling in the incidence of interceptions for dunnage over the previous year. The principal reason for interceptions was the absence of or inappropriate ISPM 15 mark.
