VIL presents results project Omni-channel logistics

20 December 2016

More and more often retailers use a combination of physical stores and webshops, but these are often separate sales channels. The starting point of the project ‘Omni-channel logistics’, of the Flanders Institute for Logistics (VIL), was that this needs to change to make the transition to successful omni-channel retail. However, the results show that changing to omni-channel logistics is not always the best choice for a business.
Combining online and offline is not easy because both supply chains have different characteristics. The order picking process, for example, is at item level for online sales but for offline sales it can also be per box (Press Release VIL, 24 November 2016).
