Declaration of ingredients in wine

02 February 2016

As a result of an episode of the Dutch TV show ‘Keuringsdienst van Waarde’ about wine Member of Parliament Dikkers (PvdA) has asked the minister of Health, Welfare and Sport some questions about the ingredients that are added to wine. Why is it not required to mention all ingredients in alcoholic drinks?
The requirements for the list of ingredients are set in Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011. According to Article 16 the list of ingredients or a mandatory nutrition declaration shall not be mandatory for beverages containing more than 1.2 % by volume of alcohol. The Commission shall produce a report addressing whether alcoholic beverages should in future be covered (Waar&Wet, 26 January 2016).
