Returnable Transport Packaging (RTP) in developing countries

21 November 2016

In an article published in Production Planning and Control, researchers at the University of Central Lancashire UK identify drivers, barriers and potential benefits of Returnable Transport Packaging (RTP) in Nigeria and South Africa.
The findings suggest that RTP has a significant positive impact on business performance. The results show that there is increasing move towards the adoption of RTP but some organisations are faced with financial constraints, especially the small and medium size ones. In addition, the results show that RTP is largely a ‘sustainability facing’ initiative with the adoptee motivated primarily by potential environmental, economic, social and operational benefits.
