NL: Remain supplier, or start making own equipment?

There are not many large original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the Netherlands: companies that produce entire machines and devices under their own brand name. Most of the parts of high tech suppliers produce in the Netherlands are sold to foreign companies. OEMs continuously demand that suppliers start producing entire modules independently. To create a stronger position and to fulfil the requirements of their customers, many suppliers consider becoming OEMs themselves. In a report, ABN AMRO describes the challenges suppliers encounter on their way to being an OEM. It covers the practical value of a number of theoretical models and explores the assumed higher profitability.
