New Chinese standards for Food Contact Materials and Articles

21 December 2016

In November 2016, the China National Health and Family Planning Commission published an announcement with a list of 53 mandatory national standards for food contact materials and articles that come into effect in 2017.
Some of these standards are particularly important, including the specific standard GB 31604.30 for the determination of phthalates migration, and the various standards for the migration of heavy metals (cadmium, chromium, nickel, lead, and zinc) and the metalloids antimony and arsenic. The list also includes standards for the determination of the migration of vinyl chloride, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in paper, and formaldehyde (SGS News Center, 15 December 2016).
