Up to a quarter of jobs expected to change in next five years
The WEF Future of Jobs Report 2023 (20.38 MB) suggests that almost a quarter of jobs (23%) are expected to change in the next five years. WEF surveyed 803 companies, together anticipating 69 million new jobs to be created and 83 million to be eliminated among the 673 million jobs corresponding to the dataset. Advancing technology adoption and increasing digitisation will cause significant labour market churn, with an overall net positive in job creation.

Skills forecast: Green and digital transitions to have positive employment impact
Cedefop’s newly launched 2023 skills forecast sees the EU-27 economy grow in the projection period up to 2035, albeit at a low pace of slightly above 1% per annum on average. Higher future energy and food prices are expected to impact employment negatively due to slower economic growth. However, the green and digital transitions will have a positive employment impact on several sectors.

Ten significant shifts in organisations identified, with the right adaptive measures
McKinsey has launched their The State of Organizations 2023 report, seeking both to pinpoint the most important shifts that organisations are grappling with and to provide some ideas and suggestions about how to approach them. These jobs are most common in areas with high (or low) population growth
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics has published the outcome of an in-depth study addressing the employment shares of all occupational groups for the USA, comparing the low-growth or declining population areas with the high-growth areas. Food preparation and serving related, construction and extraction, office and administrative support occupations, and sales and related occupations were generally more concentrated in the high-growth areas.

Focus time is key for well-being and work engagement of information workers
Microsoft studied the effects of automatically scheduling time for focused work on people’s work calendars using the Focus Time feature on Microsoft’s Outlook calendars. According to the study (1.1 MB), participants using the abovementioned ‘treatment’ showed higher wellbeing, including more satisfaction and less tiredness and stress.

Majority of digital workers want to participate in creating their hybrid work model
A recent survey by Gartner found that 77% of digital workers want to participate in creating their hybrid work model, while 14% prefer to have their hybrid work environment mandated. Gartner’s fifth biannual Digital Worker Experience survey was conducted from September through November 2022 among 4,861 full-time employees that use digital technology for work purposes, at organisations with 100 or more employees in the U.S., U.K., India and China.
