NL: No scientific evidence for effect front-of-pack labels

A convincing evidence-base that front-of-pack (FOP) nutrition labels helps to make the range of products offered healthier or that they make consumers choose healthier products more frequently is lacking. This is the conclusion of the Independent Front-of-pack Logo Committee which studied the scientific literature on a number of front-of-pack logos. The committee was also asked advice on the value of FOP labeling within the framework of Dutch food policy. FOP can be useful when it comes to achieving the food policy goal of informing about healthy food according to the committee (Information Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (News Item RIVM, 12 December 2016).
